Pillar House is a light, airy, self catering holiday cottage that is cosy enough for two but spacious enough for five. It is set on two floors above the owners’ residence, in a quiet village street above the picturesque harbour of Boscastle. It is a Grade II Listed, Georgian House. Double-glazed throughout and with modern central heating, it combines period features with modern facilities. The roof terrace has stunning views over the Jordan Valley.
A footpath a few yards from the house leads to the cliffs and some of Britain’s most beautiful and dramatic coastal scenery, whilst a short walk away there are footpaths leading to quiet, wooded valleys and onto the edges of the atmospheric moors with their rich, archaeological heritage.
King Arthur’s castle at Tintagel, Daphne Du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn, some of Britain’s best surfing beaches, the Camel Cycle Trail, Doc Martin’s Port Isaac, the Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre and the National Trust’s Lanhydrock are all no more than a 30-minute drive away.
A little further will take you to the Eden Project, Charlestown Tall Ships and the Shipwreck & Heritage Centre and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
The village itself, featured in A Seaside Parish and Thomas Hardy’s A Pair of Blue Eyes, was made famous by ‘the Boscastle Flood’. It has an Elizabethan harbour, three traditional public houses, which feature live music several times a week, a variety of restaurants and shops and the Museum of Witchcraft.
